From 5 to 17 October, Luxembourg celebrates the 5th edition of Mental Health Weeks.
This year’s message is simple and powerful:
“We all carry baggage. Together, let’s move forward lighter.”
We all accumulate experiences throughout our lives. Difficult moments, disappointments, responsibilities, expectations, changes, fears — but also relationships, achievements, strengths and lessons learned.
Some of this baggage is useful. Some of it may have protected us at a certain moment in our lives. And some of it we may simply have been carrying for longer than we need to.
From a coaching perspective, an interesting question is not only “What am I carrying?”, but also:
“What do I still want to carry with me?”
Take a look inside your suitcase
Imagine your life as a suitcase.
What is taking up space right now?
Perhaps an expectation you have placed on yourself. A goal that no longer feels like yours. A fear that influences your decisions. A habit that once helped you but no longer does. Or simply too many commitments competing for your time and energy.
Coaching creates a space to stop for a moment and look at what is inside that suitcase.
Not to analyse or diagnose ourselves, but to become more aware of where we are, what we want and what might help us move forward.
What could make your baggage lighter?
Sometimes change does not require completely transforming our lives.
It can mean setting a boundary.
Asking for help.
Changing a priority.
Letting go of an unrealistic expectation.
Making time for something that gives us energy.
Or finally taking one small step towards something we have been postponing.
Mental Health Weeks are a good opportunity to bring mental well-being into our conversations and to remember that taking care of ourselves can also begin with something very simple: paying attention to what we are carrying.
So, perhaps this October, ask yourself:
What would I like to carry forward — and what could I finally put down?
If you feel it’s time to pause, clarify what matters to you and decide what you want to carry forward, coaching can help you turn reflection into action.
